links to sites where you can download decompression and GIS software. This topics
assumes that you do not have a decompression program or GIS application on your machine
and that you wish to install them. If you do not want to install software on your

that you have downloaded a compressed file you have to decompress it.
If you have not downloaded a file or don't know how click here.
You need a software program that will allow you to do that. While we're
installing a decompression programs, we might as well install a GIS application that will
allow you to view the data after you decompress it.
There are numerous decompression programs and GIS applications that you can use.
INSIDE Idaho does not promote the use of any one program or application--feel free try
more than one and determine which works best for you. However, for the purposes
of this tutorial, please download and install PowerArchiver (a free decompression program)
and ArcExplorer 2.0 (a free GIS application) on your machine.
To download PowerArchiver and ArcExplorer 2.0, locate each of them in the table below
and follow the links. It will be helpful to read some of the background information
that the companies provide prior to downloading and be sure to follow the installation
instructions included with each software application.
Once you have both applications installed, return to this page to continue the
